After years of dragging out the process, Microsoft has finally disabled Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 PCs and made it unavailable for older versions of Windows. Today’s update for Microsoft Edge permanently disables Internet Explorer and forces users to transition to the new Chromium-based browser. To make the transition easier, Microsoft Edge has an IE mode that adds compatibility for legacy websites that still require Internet Explorer features. The browser will also no longer be available for download on Windows 7, making it nearly impossible to use after today. Although users may still see some icons and references to Internet Explorer on Windows 10 for the time being, Microsoft has announced that it will remove these references with an upcoming update in June. Today marks the end of an era, as Internet Explorer finally comes to an end.
