ChatGPT WhatsApp for farmers

The Indian government is set to use ChatGPT, the chatbot by Microsoft-backed OpenAI, to educate farmers about various government schemes. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is developing a WhatsApp chatbot called Bhashini, which enables farmers to send voice notes asking questions in 12 languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Assamese, and Odia. The chatbot uses ChatGPT’s data models to provide audio responses that are capable of generating human-like replies, creating a natural conversation between the user and the virtual assistant. This feature is particularly useful for farmers who may not be familiar with typing on smartphones.

This initiative has been developed to inform farmers about various government schemes and to help them access information quickly and easily. ChatGPT’s machine learning algorithms will enable the chatbot to provide responses that are specific to the farmer’s queries, making it an effective tool for disseminating information to India’s farming communities.

ChatGPT is also used in Microsoft’s Edge browser and Bing search engine. It reached an estimated 100 million monthly active users in January, becoming the fastest-growing consumer application, and has clocked over 590 million visits. The integration of ChatGPT into the WhatsApp chatbot will be a significant boost for Indian farmers, helping them to stay updated with various government initiatives.
